The Bat Plant

One of the more unusual plants in the garden is the Bat Plant (Tacca chantrieri), sometimes also known (though unfairly) as the Devil Flower. The blackish brown flowers with what looks like long whiskers is what makes it unique and gives its rather sinister name. It blooms pretty consistently and is better presented as a potted specimen, in my opinion.

  1. Very unique! My type of plant. May I ask where you purchased it?

  2. Hello, i am new here, just followed your mysterious name from Patrick's blog. That enchanting photo of the bat flower made me read all (as in a-l-l) the posts here to the beginning, where 1784 was explained. It was a lovely tour and you even made me a bit sad of my dream to make a lovely farm, in our already existing "farm", now still a barren farm! Ours also share the Tagalog you exquisitely referred to here, although I am a real one, you are an adopted one, but ultimately you will like the sincerity of the old folks here. BTW, Lipa has a better climate than ours, and that creek in your property makes it more idyllic. Oh how i wish i have the funds just like you, then i can also do what i wish and have the butterfly farm on one side and a lot more on the other. You mentioned Abad's house in Batanes, na gusto ko rin gayahin! Envious-envious! Now i am your follower!

  3. Gee, thanks Andrea! Where is your place?

@Bom: I asked for a "pup" from a private garden.

@ Grace: Yeah, a bit but beautiful nevertheless. If you think this is weird, wait until I feature some of my pitcher plants and a humongous flower that stinks!
